Visit the Woodpeckers
A walk through part of the Cornbury Estate with fine views over the Evenlode Valley then through ancient woodland to arrive at the reasonably priced Plough in Finstock for optional pub lunch. Return by a different route. Finstock means "place of the Woodpeckers" so eyes and ears need to be alert!
The Cornbury Estate is I the Wychwood Forest and its long history includes skirmishes during the Civil War. The walk route passes remains of civil war gun emplacements. The tiny hamlet of Wilcot has tree large houses in various states of change. The Plough Inn dates from 1772 and has a fine range of lunches and drinks available at reasonable prices. Please bring a packed lunch if you prefer.
