Leaving Marshfield going South we ascend to Charmy Down Airfield, then descend via Ramscombe Bottom to St Catherine's Valley joining the Limestone Link heading North via Oakfield lane and climbing steeply to Ashwicke. Then mostly flat to Marshfield. Please bring a packed lunch.
We start from historic Marshfield village, lying on the old coaching route from Bristol to London with its houses lining the high street at least 100 years old. Proceeding by the Green Lane and Limestone Link we cross the centre of the site of Charmy Down, a WW2 airfield used for night fighter defence of Bristol and Bath. later we have views of St Catherine's Court a grade 1 listed Tudor Manor House where the actress Jayne Seymour lived from 1984 to 2007. Not suitable for pushchairs.
