Canal, Common and the Cotswold Way

Back to Guided Walks page

Easy start along to and then along the Stroudwater Canal towpath but later there is an ascent up to Selsley Common. We return along the Cotswold Way, with a descent to the start in King’s Stanley. Lunch available after the walk at pubs in King's Stanley, Selsley or nearby Woodchester.

Start at King’s Stanley onto the Cotswold Way to Ryeford via Stanley Mill, the easy bit on the Stroudwater canal path to Ebley Mill (locks, bridges, Oil Mill) then onto the former railway line to North Woodchester (Roman villa and Priory). Then comes the hard bit with an uphill section onto and crossing of Selsley Common before descending via the Cotswold Way back to King’s Stanley. There are several stiles on the route and conditions may be muddy in parts.
