Planning & Development

The Cotswolds Conservation Board is not a planning authority for the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) but acts as an advisor and watchdog when it comes to planning and development.

Towns, villages and individual buildings form a vital element of the character of the Cotswolds, particularly because of the widespread use of limestone and the area's distinctive architecture.

The planning and development both within the AONB and around it is of crucial importance in maintaining the character and importance of the area.

The board monitors and responds to numerous planning consultations - click here to view these responses online.

Planners within the AONB are encouraged to refer to the board's landscape strategies and guidelines which outline key forces for change in 19 identified landscape character areas.
