Walking

The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is walking country; its varied and distinctive landscape is ideal terrain for the keenest of walkers and also those who are less familiar with walking as an activity.

There are many ways to enjoy walking in the Cotswolds; on your own with a map and compass if you are experienced, with the help of published route guides, or in the company of a walking group or guided walks leader.  If you prefer the latter, why not join one of the hundreds of guided walks that take place across the AONB, many of which are led by our Cotswold Voluntary Wardens.  Many other organisations also run walks programmes and events including the Wildlife Trusts, National Trust and some local authorities.  However used you are to walking this is one of the best places in the country to get outside and take a stroll or a ramble.

As well as a variety of shorter, circular walks, there are a number of long distance walking routes and trails in the Cotswolds, including the Cotswold Way National Trail, which can be walked in their entirety or in sections.  Or, if you are considering a walking holiday, there are many companies offering a range of holidays in the Cotswolds.

If you would like to improve your navigation skills, the Voluntary Wardens also hold map and compass skills courses to help you find your way across the Cotswolds. To find out more please call Becky Jones on 01451 862008.
