Cotswolds 'Stepping Stones' programme offers paid opportunities for new dry-stone wallers
'STEPPING STONES' - 'bridging the gap to the walling profession for newly qualified dry-stone wallers'
In March 2016 the Cotswolds Dry-stone Walling Academy will launch its 'Stepping Stones' programme. The aim of this programme is to offer newly qualified wallers the opportunity to develop their skills by taking on the repair of a 10-20m section of traditional Cotswolds field wall. Wallers will work alone and be given a set period of time (negotiated between the Board and the waller) in which they must complete the work.
Each waller taking part in Stepping Stones will be assigned a professional dry-stone waller who will act as a mentor. The mentor will be available to be contacted by the stepping stones waller in order to provide advice on any technical difficulties with the wall. The majority of contact will be via telephone or email. However, the mentor will be available on the first day and occasionally throuhgout the wall build. The mentor will also be the person that assessors the quality of the wallers work before signing it off for payment or requesting poor standard work to be redone.
Stepping Stones is designed to be flexible to fit around the time that wallers can afford to spend on the project. Existing locations for Stepping Stones include;
