Building a wall? What a great IKEA!

On a sunny afternoon in June, 11 employees from the Coventry branch of Swedish furniture company IKEA, put down their pens and picked up their walling hammers for a team building event with a difference.

With the iconic Broadway Tower in the background and under the watchful eye of professional dry-stone waller Jon Bendle, the group quickly got to work in repairing the 100 year old dry-stone wall. As with many dry-stone walls in the Cotswolds landscape, this one had fallen into disrepair and was in desperate need of rebuilding.

The team caught on fast and after just 2 hours they had managed to lay 4 courses of the 10 meter long wall. It was then time for a short tea, coffee and jam doughnut break, during which time the group took the opportunity to explore the 18th century tower and take in the panoramic views. It was then back to the wall and by the time the group finished at 5pm it was nearly half way up, a fantastic effort in such a short period of time. Well done IKEA Coventry!

“We had a great afternoon and learnt lots to add to our cultural and heritage knowledge” – Jemma Hirschfield (Learning & Development Manager).
