Hedgelaying
The landscape of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) depends on people who live and work here possessing traditional rural skills so that they can help conserve the area, but with increasing migration of workers to towns and cities, the number of people who have these skills is in decline.
The Cotswolds Conservation Board works to reverse this decline by supporting rural skills such as hedgelaying.
We do this in a number of ways by:
- working with the support of the National Hedgelaying Society to run the annual North Cotswolds Hedgelaying Competition
- running two-day hedgelaying courses in the winter months
- making applications for grant funding to finance a new rural skills project for the AONB.
